Slap it – 2 Digit by 1 Digit – Division – 4th Grade Math Game [CCSS 4.NBT.B.6]

We wanted to introduce you to a math game that we think your students will absolutely love – it’s called Slap it – 2 Digit by 1 Digit – Division, and it’s a super fun way for kids to practice finding quotients and remainders with up to 2-digit dividends and 1-digit divisors [CCSS 4.NBT.B.6].

Here’s how it works: you’ll need a standard deck of cards, and 3 to 4 players. The teacher (or dealer) draws 2 cards and places them at the center. A 2-digit number is formed from these cards, with the first card drawn representing the tens number and the second card representing the ones number. Then, the teacher draws a third card, and the players must divide the 2-digit number by the 1-digit number (the third card). The first player to “SLAP” the cards and say the quotient and remainder out loud wins the round and gets to keep all 3 cards. If no player is able to get the correct answer, the cards are discarded. The game ends when the deck is exhausted, and the player with the most number of cards collected is the winner.

We think Slap it is a super fun and engaging way for students to practice their division skills, and we hope you’ll consider adding it to your math instruction. It’s taken from our 3rd & 4th Grade File Folder Math Games book, which has 55 printable multiplication and division games that kids will love. Here’s what some other teachers have said about it:
